The Musical Director of Ryde Chorus is Philip Fryer.
Philip started singing oratorio at University College, London, under John Poole.
He sang in the extensive plainsong project for Radio 3 with The Taverner Consort (Andrew Parrott). He performed in the Florentine Intermedi of 1610, and had his Radio 3 solo debut with Gothic Voices. Later he sang for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer on Radio 3. At this time he was Chorus Master for the Sainsbury Singers.
Philip sang Bach’s B minor Mass in the Berlin Bach Festival with the London Baroque Soloists, and was then selected for Mozart master classes at Glyndebourne, where he sang Ferrando (Cosi fan tutte), Tamino (The Magic Flute) and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni).
For over 20 years Philip was a deputy Lay Vicar at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. He is a founder member of the Choir of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and with them has sung widely in Europe and USA under Sir Neville Marriner. In 1997, they performed in the Academy for Performing Arts in Hong Kong for the handover. He has toured Greece, Holland and Turkey singing Misa Flamenca with Paco Pena. He was Chorus Master for ASMF in the mainly Mozart festival at The Barbican Centre.
